Different Types of Online Blackjack Games

Most variations of blackjack tend to make changes in the payout and provide special bonus bets to their players. Some changes such as the payouts, number of decks used, and different gaming options are also present. However, the same basic rules of a traditional blackjack game still apply. Due to the number blackjack variants, you should make sure to understand the rules first before you play blackjack games. Here are the different blackjack variants you can choose from:

1. Classic Blackjack

Basically the most popular and widely played variation, classic blackjack is played with 1 or up to eight decks. You are dealt 2 cards as well as the dealer, one card of which is face up for the dealer. It is referred to as the hole card. If your total card value is 21, you automatically win. If you go beyond that, you will “bust”, causing you to lose the round. However, if you don’t have a 21, you’ll still win as long as your hand has a higher value than that of the dealer’s.

2. Europe Blackjack

The European Blackjack version is played using 2 decks of cards. The cards which are dealt to you will be in face up position, while that of the dealer will only have one face up card. His hole card, which is the one faced down, won’t be dealt unless you make a decision on how you play your cards. You can choose to hit, split, stand, or double. You can also double down for a hand with a total value of 9, 10, or 11.

3. Spanish 21

Spanish 21 online is a blackjack variation played using six or eight decks of cards. In this variant, all 10 value cards are removed which leaves only 48 cards to start the game. This basically increases the house edge. The dealer will have a chance to peek at his hole card and wins if he manage to get a Blackjack or 21. If you’re lucky enough to get a Blackjack, it could result in a tie.

4. Progressive Blackjack

It works just like the regular blackjack game, except that you are given a shot at winning the progressive jackpot. You will have to place an additional $1 bet, however, in order to have a chance at winning the jackpot. The same basic rules apply, except that there are slight variations in terms of splitting, hitting, standing, or doubling the cards.

5. Pontoon

In this variant, the standard terms Hit, Stand, and Blackjack and replaced with Pontoon, Twist, and Stick respectively. It is played using the same rules of Spanish 21 - with all the 10 value cards removed.

6. Blackjack Switch

As the name suggests, Blackjack Switch allows you to switch between two pair of cards. In the start of the game, you will be dealt two hands of cards with all cards face up. You have the option of switching your hand in order to improve your total hand value. The payout is 1:1 instead of the usual 3:2.
